Weston  Australian Capital Territory

Weston is the geographical centre of Canberra, but it also lies in one of the quieter quarters of town. But Weston is no different from any other part of the city in that it is within easy reach of the capital’s tourist drawcards and amenities.

Cotter Road takes the visitor to the Mt Stromlo turnoff and the exciting Exploratory Astronomical Science Centre, just the place to understand more about ‘long ago and far away’. The observatory has been an integral part of the Canberra scene since 1924 and is Australia's leading research centre in optical and infra-red astronomy.

A little further down the track pleasant riverside picnic spots await and, at about the 40km mark, is the beautiful Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve with its bush walks and the opportunity to meet wildlife in their natural surrounds.

Tidbinbilla is a very special place where you can walk freely among kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, emus, native birds and other wildlife. You might even catch a glimpse of the reclusive platypus or such endangered animals as the brush-tailed rock wallaby, the bustard or mountain duck.
